What is OBD Theft?
All modern vehicles have an OBD socket which allows access to the vehicle brain. Unfortunately, thieves have found a way to manipulate this outlet. They connect to the port via a laptop computer, hack the brain of the vehicle and bypass the integrated security protocols, often programming new keys and gaining control of the vehicle. This process can take less than 30 seconds before the thief drives away. Criminals are using this form of entry to devastating effect.
- OBD Ports can be protected in any of the following ways
- Fitting of a physical lock to stop unauthorized access
- Fitting of a Cat 2 Immobiliser
- Fitting of a Ghost Immobiliser
